The Veggie 7 Pizza
Named after the trial of seven defendants in Chicago charged by the federal government with conspiracy, inciting to riot, and other charges related to anti-Vietnam sentiment, rather than the number of toppings added to a pizza
While I have been eating a lot healthier over the last year, I know in my heart I will NEVER stop eating pizza. I simply just eat a lot less of it than I used to.
However, there are just some days that I need to sink my teeth into a pie, but still want to stay under 2000 calories for the day. Enter the "Veggie 7" personal pizza from Old Chicago. We're talking a veggie pizza that's loaded with red onions, green bell peppers, sliced mushrooms, black olives, and roma tomatoes.
I realize that's only six vegetables, and there's a reason for that. It's a healthier take on Old Chicago's original "Chicago 7" which sports Pepperoni, Italian sausage, red onions, black olives, green peppers, and sliced mushrooms.
That being said, I've seen a few Old Chicago restaurants add artichoke hearts to the pies (like this one pictured below) to bring the veggie count up to seven.
I order my Veggie 7 with Old Chicago's 'tavern thin crust' which is light and crispy. Half of this pie delivers 485 calories, meaning.. a light breakfast and lunch allows me to eat the entire pie, while staying well within my calorie limit for the day. Not to mention that I get a couple servings of vegetables!
The toppings are always fresh and tasty, and the crispy crust works perfectly with the abundance of veggies piled on top. The only reason I gave it four out of five slices on my review, was strictly from a health standpoint and personal taste. A little less cheese and a little more sauce, would drop your calorie count, while better balancing the crispiness of the crust.
All in all, the "Veggie 7" is a great tasting and healthier option for pizza addicts like myself, that are trying to eat better, and I highly recommend it.
